On one hand, it could be totally cool because you're making money. However, if you're guests aren't the type to put themselves out there and dance with a lot of people, this can end terribly. I know a good portion of my fiance's friends would pay to dance with him, but I can't say as much for my side. It all depends. It can be really fun and give you a little spending money for the honeymoon. I’ve been thinking about this for my own reception. On one hand, it could be totally cool because you’re making money. So I guess if you are of Polish descent it's ok. Otherwise, it's just tacky. I'm 35 and he's 40, so we've got most of the everyday stuff we need. I recently read about a site called wishpot.com where you can register for big ticket items like a sofa or a trip. It's allows people to see the long-term goal you are working towards and contribute their "gift". It is a bit like asking for cash, but it seems classier b/c you are letting everyone know what the money will be spent on. And let's face it, a person only needs so many toasters.
