I have a confession to make. I check my Blackberry all day every day. If I’m not checking my new emails…I’m responding to text message. If it’s not text messages…I’m checking Facebook. If it’s not Facebook…I’m checking out Google Reader. If not Google Reader…I’m playing a game or surfing the web. You get the picture, right?
My Blackberry has gone far beyond a means for making and receiving phone calls. It’s become my personal hand held entertainment center. If I’m not mistaken that is the whole point of the Blackberry…right?
My Blackberry has also become a huge source of annoyance for Eros. On many occasions he’s made comments about my need to be connected to my Blackberry 24/7. He’s even gone as far as to suggest that I wake up in the middle of the night to check my Blackberry. I can’t won’t confirm this statement, cuz it might make me seem crazy.
Well anyway…it finally came to a head last night. While on the drive home from hanging out with friends last night…I did it again. It’s almost like I check my Blackberry unconsciously. I pulled out my Blackberry while we were talking and Eros’ “What are you doing?” comment more than conveyed his annoyance with me. We had a conversation about it when we got home and I conceded that my behavior had been rude.
Okay fellow BB and iPhone users…are you addicted to your device…is it interfering with your relationship?
I am definitely guilty of checking BB too much. It only too one good complaint from Good Guy to alter my behavior. Now I put my phone on silent whenever we are together.
Okay Tiff. I’m late with following your blog so I thought I would jump in. I got a blackberry for the first time, furnished by my job. I love it! I was told it was necessary to be available at ALL times. hmm, not! Well, sometimes not. All of my work comes to my phone and I have to always stay connected. I don’t have a home phone for the first time in my life so I know what you mean. When I return to the states, I will probably never have a home phone again, ever. I do check it often but I’m not addicted and rude with the phone like you.

I’ve been wondering what’s going on with you two. I can absolutely agree with Eros. While, I have a Blackberry Tour (the freshest, most addictive handheld device I’ve ever known), I make it a point not to use it too much.
At any rate, my ex girlfriend used to do that. She’d pull her phone out and play a game while we were talking, and not being able or willing to give me her undivided attention burned me in ways I cannot fully express with words! It communicated, “What you’re saying is hardly worth me NOT playing with my phone while you talk.” I say be careful that you are not so connected with friends and family electronically that you miss out on what’s within your touch.

I can see how one could feel that way. It’s a bad habit that I’m working to break. I suppose it would be easier to break if I had a home phone. Without the home line, I feel the need to have the BB with me at all times, even in the house. It’s sick…I know
