Tonight I, like many Americans, watched President Obama deliver his message regarding health care reform. As I was watching, it occured to me that I have never actually watched a Presidential address. In years past, I always saw these speaches as an intrusion to my nightly television viewing. I know…ignorant! I would pretty much watch any station that was not showing the President. I am not proud of this fact. In fact, I am somewhat embarassed by my past behavior. If the President of the United States wants to address the country, shouldn’t I have enough respect to stop and listen to the message? Not to mention, it’s just plain ignorant to choose to be uninformed. I don’t know if it’s because I’m older (and hopefully wiser) or if it’s the fact that our President is a black man. It could be all the hoopla surrounding the education adress made by President Obama. All I know is I finally get it; if the President wants to talk I ought to listen. If for no other reason, than the respect for the office of President.
And speaking of respect, what the hell is up with Joe Wilson? In the words of Dwight…how dreadful!
What do you think? When the President wants to speak to the nation, shouldn’t we listen?
Who Said What?
